Open borders save lives
It occurred to me, here at the border of Ethiopia and South Sudan where day after day, hundreds of famished and frightened refugees stream across, that the the sudden population here could be dead if it weren’t for UNHCR and other partner aid agencies here pitching tents, trucking in food, treating illness and drilling wells.
Or they would be trapped in a zone of conflict if the Government of Ethiopia did not keep its borders open and let them find safety here.
